Sufficient

A woman stands in a wild field under a breaking sky. Above her, the clouds part to release a concentrated beam of warm golden light that falls directly onto her. Not the field. Not the landscape. Her. She stands in her own private beam of sky-given light as though she has always stood here and the sky has simply, finally, noticed.

In her hands — pressed to her chest, held the way you hold something both precious and entirely ordinary — wildflowers. Not roses. Not formal blooms. Wildflowers. The kind that grow where they choose, that cannot be cultivated, that exist only for themselves and whatever beauty they decide to make in whatever field they happen to occupy.

She was taught that what she had was never quite enough. That the flowers in her hands were too common. That the field she stood in was too ordinary. She believed this for a long time. She looked for other flowers. She moved to different fields. She waited for a different quality of light.

And then one day she looked at what was already in her hands — wildflowers, entirely hers — and the sky broke open. Not because she earned it. Because she finally allowed it. Sufficient: adequate to the task. Complete in itself. Requiring nothing more. Ordinary is not the opposite of beautiful. It is the original form of it.
